Our Team

Hanson Robotics is comprised of a unique group of individuals with a shared goal: to advance Artificial Intelligence (AI) development in conjunction with development of the most realistic, practical, and evocatively familiar humanoid robots in the world. Meet our team:

Dr. David Hanson, Chief Scientist

Dr. David Hanson, Ph.D. is widely regarded amongst the world robotics industry as both a leader and a visionary. His core innovations come from years of research on building robots and their accompanying materials, such as Frubber™, mechanics (including servo-motors and battery-powering capability) and software (AI itself, or the "brain" and "vocabulary" of each robot). Dr. Hanson founded Hanson Robotics in late 2003 to commercialize social robot characters and their constituent technologies. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Dallas in Humanities with a major in Aesthetic Studies and holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Bob Hauser, Director of Software

With over 15 years in software engineering, Bob Hauser has an extensive background in C, C++, C#, and Java, and developing natural language processing work in semantics. Mr. Hauser has nine patents in distributed computing and has held positions at Recursion Software and Language Computer. He has a BS from the University of Northern Iowa and an MS from Michigan State University, where he specialized in artificial intelligence.

Kevin Carpenter, Director of Hardware

Bringing over 10 years of mechanical design, solids modeling, and systems engineering expertise to the team, Kevin Carpenter left his position as Senior Systems Engineer at Lockheed-Martin to help bring Hanson Robotics' artificial companions to life. Mr. Carpenter has held positions as a test engineer at ElectroSpace and Sanden International, mechanical design engineer at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), pro/engineer CAD consultant for Parametric Technology Corporation and large assembly management at the Lawrence Livermore Labs National Ignition Facility (NIF). He holds one patent and received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from SMU and is currently pursuing his MSN in Systems Engineering from SMU.

Matt Fisher, Business Development Manager

Matt Fisher, fluent in Japanese, brings an international background to Hanson Robotics in the role of Business Development Manager. After serving six years in the Navy and founding KumoTek Robotics, a company which imports bipedal robots from Japan and develops search and recovery robots for first responder teams. KumoTek also operates an online sales portal Roboporium. Mr. Fisher graduated from the University of Richmond in 2006. He is also the founder of an educational program called Robot P.E.T.S. (Robots Promoting Education Through Science), which uses bipedal robots and advanced programming software to help young students to focus more on science.
